Restoration

Try in, decontaminate with a zirconia-suitable cleaner, rinse and dry. Treat the intaglio as the manufacturer directs.

Avoid

Hydrofluoric acid on zirconia. Saliva left on the intaglio.

Golden Nugget

Short or tapered prep? Go adhesive.

Sample card. Manufacturer's instructions for use come first.
Why restorations come back

Every material asks for something different.

The detail lives in IFUs, lecture notes and half-remembered courses. On a busy list, that is where debonds begin.

Six IFUs, six answers

Each cement, primer and ceramic has its own sequence, printed small and filed in a drawer.

School taught other materials

Gold and zinc phosphate forgave a great deal. Zirconia and lithium disilicate forgive far less.

Courses fade by Monday

A good day's teaching is hard to recall at the chair, mid-list, with the patient waiting.

Contamination at try-in

Saliva and try-in paste left on the intaglio, or cleaned with the wrong thing for that material.

The wrong primer on the tray

A small mix-up between surface treatments that shows itself months later.

Self-adhesive for everything

Often fine on a retentive prep. A gamble on veneers, short preps and bonded bridges.

One card per material and restoration. Read it once, then glance at it at the chair.

How a card works

One page. Same order. Every time.

Learn the layout once and every card reads the same. Big enough to read on your phone, sharp enough to print and laminate.

Unlike most reference sheets, each card names its evidence and tells you what to put in the notes.

1
Glance
Isolation, cement and surface treatment, readable in two seconds.
2
Restoration
What to do to the intaglio, outside the mouth, in order.
3
Tooth
Cleaning, conditioning, primer and adhesive, in the right sequence for the material.
4
Seat, cure and clean
Seating, tack-cure, excess removal and final cure.
5
Avoid
The classic mistakes behind most debonds.
6
Golden Nugget
One practical tip worth remembering for that case.
7
Evidence
The source behind the card's key claims.
8
Record in notes
What to write in the clinical record.

The Cement Chooser

A short decision tree and table. Answer a few questions about the restoration and the prep, and you know which cement the case calls for.

And a glossary of the terms and the names that mean the same thing, such as PFM, PBC and metal-ceramic.

Chairside Booklet

Cementation Steps by Brand

38 cement and primer systems from the major manufacturers, steps by restoration material, paraphrased from their instructions for use. Gaps are marked, never guessed. 48 pages.

Built for associates

You didn't choose the cement. You still own the result.

Associates move between practices, materials and systems. These cards are material-led, with brand examples, so they work with whatever is on the shelf, and the one page you need is always the same place on the card.

For you if
  • You place crowns, onlays or veneers every week
  • You switch between zirconia, lithium disilicate and PFM
  • You want your nurse to prep the right primer without asking
  • You would rather check one page than three IFUs
Not for you if
  • You want a CE course or certificate
  • You want one manufacturer's official protocol
  • You never cement indirect restorations

Questions

Good to know.

Is this a course?

No. It is a set of printable reference cards in PDF form. There are no videos, no lessons and no CPD certificate.

Which brands do the cards follow?

None in particular. Product names appear only as examples, and every card reminds you that the manufacturer's instructions for use come first.

Is it written for UK practice?

Yes. It uses UK terminology and record-keeping, and is written with NHS and private practice in mind. The materials science applies anywhere.

How do I print them?

The cards are A5. Print two to an A4 page (a ready-made A4 2-up file is included), or print single cards to laminate. Print at actual size (100%), not "fit to page". Everything sits inside a 5 mm margin, so ordinary office printers will not clip it. They also read well on a phone or tablet.

Can my whole practice use one copy?

The licence is for one dentist. Print them for your own surgery and use them as you like there, but please don't share the files.

What if they're not for me?

If DFR isn't useful to you at the chair, email drfuz@penningtondental.co.uk within 30 days of buying and we'll refund you in full. No forms, no questions.

Next crown: open the card, seat it, done.
